A football season unlike any other is right around the corner

Football season — I'm an optimist — will look entirely different this fall. Our son Ty, who is 14, will play for the first time. He's been working out for months and is lifting and running at his high school three mornings a week. It's great to see his dedication and his focus. He's also realistic and knows the learning curve is great for someone who's never played organized football. You can see his jersey in his locker in the photo below and to the right.

Obviously, as a longtime sports writer, athlete and sports fan since I was a kid, athletics have played an important role in my life. As a family, we enjoy going to Braves games and many Georgia events, such as football, basketball, baseball and tennis.

My memory of the last Braves game I saw in person is displayed by the shot of the scoreboard in the photo below and to the left. St. Louis 13, Atlanta 1. Yeah, I was at the playoff game last October when the Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first inning on their way to eliminating the Braves from the playoffs.
