Life's a beach

Welcome to a little glimpse into the life of my family. There's only three of us, so we're tight, but especially so since March, when the Covid-19 quarantine forced everbody to hunker down in their homes. I like to believe we're closer because of that. But even before the quarantine, we usually ate, worked out, watched TV, traveled, played games and generally hung out together.

Ode to the downtown T Stand

I'm not the sentimental type, but I miss the downtown Taco Stand. I didn't think it would ever close, but it served its last burrito in December. Fortunately, we ate one last meal on its final night, which is when I took this shot of its iconic sign.

I know T Stand is an acquired taste (fortunately there are two other locations), and for many, it was all about the drinking. But for me, it was a place to have lunch during the day and to shoot the bull after deadline in the early morning hours. And, hey, the owner even knew me by name. Everybody needs a place like that.

Food is a huge part of our social lives

We love going out to eat, but we also love inviting friends, family and UGA students into our home for tacos or an assortment of homemade soups and chili. Here is a group of Red and Black writers at our home in last year.

Stay strong in faith despite no church

Faith is a critical part of our lives. Every. Single. Day. Not just in trying times. Calvary Bible Church has played a huge role in our growth. We haven't met since March, but have watched recorded sermons online.

Short trips are sometimes best

Posted By: Andy Johnston

We were able to sneak in a few short trips last winter, including one to a Lego convention in Birmingham, and even a quick jaunt to Seagrove Beach, Florida, during spring break in March. That's one of our favorite places.

From baseball cards to Lego and Nike

I bought my first baseball card in 1971 and haven't stopped, so my collection includes thousands of cards. My son's Lego obsession has taken over an entire room. Oh, and he likes Nike shoes, but doesn't have too many. Yet.
